Fresh from a thrilling victory to clinch the 2013 Vodacom Cup last week, the MTN Lions return to action against Samoa on Saturday, 01st June at Ellis Park Stadium (3pm kick-off) in what is expected to be an exciting encounter in the latest instalment of the Lions Challenge.
The outing against this international
side comes at a time when the Pride of Johannesburg continues to build a
strong, competitive outfit that is preparing for the Currie Cup and next
season’s Super Rugby competition and such encounters will go a long way to
achieving that goal. The MTN Lions have registered positive results during the
early stages of the Lions Challenge over the past couple of months and we
expect the team to be positive and play with gusto again here at home today.
As expected of top international teams,
Samoa will sure provide another stern test for the Lions as they arrive in
South Africa to kick start preparations for their Castle Lager Incoming Series
with the Springboks, Italy and Scotland this winter. Samoans are renowned to
play quick running and exciting rugby and are always difficult to beat and we believe
the ,match will provide superb competition for the boys in the Lions’ Den more
so with a number players returning to the side from the Super 15 competition.
