The PSL end of season awards extravaganza was held at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City on Sunday evening. The who’s who of South African football gathered to celebrate a superb 2012/2013 football season and to pay tribute to the clubs and individuals who excelled throughout the campaign.
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was the big winner on the night walking away with a total prize-money haul of R575 000 as he was named the PSL Footballer of the Season, Absa Premiership Player’s Player of the Season, Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter was deservedly named the Absa Premiership Coach of the Season and the Englishman paid a glowing tribute to the Kaizer Chiefs family for the support that the players received throughout the season that enabled them to claim honours after a long period without tasting success.
SuperSport United celebrated a double victory of their own as goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was named Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season while Mor Diouf’s long range stunner against Mamelodi Sundowns was named as the Absa Premiership Absa-lutely Awesome Goal of the Season.
Moroka Swallows marksman Katlego Mashego was awarded R25 000 for finishing top of the goalscorer’s chart as his 13 goals this season saw him crowned Absa Premiership Top Goalscorer 2012/2013.
